It's time for another Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.
This week we are showcasing an extremely talented artist, and even more important ... a very warm and friendly lady ... Tammy Tutterow ... better known as "Tammy Tutorial" with her always inspiring weekly Tuesday tutorials on her blog. Her work is so beautifully done with a true vintage style. She inspires us all!
This week, everyone on the Design Team chose a Tammy Tutterow tutorial to create our own unique piece.
I chose Tammy's Tutorial using vellum to create dimensional pieces and also using silver paint as a resist background.
I created this very sweet vintage wooden door hanger.
I stamped this Darkroom Door Window Frame twice and the lower sill a third time so that I could create a more dimensional window ... what is OPEN! It is stamped onto Specialty Stamping Paper using a combination of first Coffee Archival Ink and then touches here and there of Jet Black Archival Ink. It is colored using a Detailer Water Brush and Vintage Photo and little touches of Gathered Twigs Distress Inks.
I added clear vellum to represent glass in the windows and then I glued the lower window; raised to create an open window effect.
Next, I applied the first of Tammy's tutorial techniques by stamping this little flower from Wendy Vecchi's Ticket To Art stamp set. I used Jet Black Archival on Specialty Stamping Paper. I also stamped the flower onto clear vellum and heat set all of them. I then colored the flowers using a Detailer Water Brush and Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade, Ripe Persimmon and Vintage Photo Distress Inks. After heat setting, I cut out all of the flowers (also separating the petals) and stacked them, using Glossy Accents to join a vellum and a paper stamped flower together in the center. I then added a button for the center of each.
And now for the second of the tutorials ... adding a Silver Paint Dabber onto a background stamp and stamping it onto manila cardstock. In this case, I used Wendy Vecchi's Heirloom stamp set for the background stamp. After stamping the image and heat setting it, I colored the manila cardstock with Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge to create a rich background color behind the window.
I created some wire "stems" and glued the flowers onto the stems and then added the Monarch Orange colored flower pots to the other end of the stems. Then I glued the pots onto the dimensional window sill. Here you can see the resist background behind the window, too.
I got so engrossed with this little door hanger by this time that I completely forgot to take photos of just the finished hanger. It was plain wood that I sanded and painted with a coat of Mermaid Fresco Paint. When dry, I added a layer of Fresco Crackle Glaze and when that was dry, I added a topcoat of Fresco Snowflake Paint. It crackled beautifully. Then I added some foliage from Tim Holtz' Urban Tapestry using Coffee Archival Ink.
I added some lace underneath the window and glued the window in place on top of it.
Here is the entire window; resist background, dimensional flowers and an added die cut Leanna Butterfly at the top. I added a small Game Spinner and a small Melissa Frances pearl for a body.
The sentiment is from Unity Stamps' Empowered Words stamp set and I thought it was perfect for this door hanger with the open window. It is set on a Spellbinders Fancy Labels die cut that I painted with a Tarnished Brass Paint Dabber.
