NUMBERS!
For some reason, one of the first things that popped into my head when I saw this numbers challenge was house numbers. So, I decided to pull a bunch of Wendy Vecchi's Art Parts and have myself a good old time creating a wall hanging key holder using several of Wendy's wonderful pieces.
I started out by
coating all of the pieces with Snow Cap Adirondak Lights pigment ink so
that I would have a lighter palette of colors.
Since I am making a key holder for house and other important keys, I thought it appropriate to use some of Wendy Vecchi Residences Art Parts for my holder. Here, I covered a house with manila cardstock and then repeatedly stamped small numbers from Wendy Vecchi's Dimensional Rose Art stamp set. These are stamped with Jet Black Archival and the house is distressed with Wild Honey followed by Gathered Twig and Black Soot Distress Inks on the edges. Since the theme is "numbers", I thought these little numbers made a great background. But, as I continued to layer things on top of this little house, I thought there were too many numbers and you will see later how I rectified that in my final piece.
The base that I used on this piece is Wendy Vecchi's Film Strip Art Parts. I slid the backing piece up so that the bottom film strip" holes would not be blocked with the Art Part Backing. That way, I can hang keys from the little clip pins that I have attached in the holes. But, that left about an inch of flat board at the top of my piece. I stained the Snow Capped background with Broken China and distressed it with Gathered Twigs. Then I added these little checkered Art Parts Stars from Wendy's Borders and Bottles set. I inked them with Scattered Straw and then stamped the small checkerboard stamp from Nature's Art in Jet Black Archival. The round numbers are from Tim Holtz' Little Labels stamp set. They are heat embossed onto white cardstock using Black Embossing Powder. Then I edged the circles with Gold Paint Dabber and pop dotted them into place on top of the stars.
Next across the top of the film strip Art Parts, there was another set of the film strip holes. I decided to die some ribbon using Scattered Straw and Barn Door. Then I stamped a series of numbers using Jet Black Archival onto the ribbon and wove it through the filmstrip holes.
I painted HAPPY HOME in a Pitch Paint Dabber from Wendy's new Art Parts Words For Art and glued them in place. I really like the way the top worked out...lots and lots of numbers!
Speaking of numbers, I decided to use Tim's Mini Numerals on the front of the little Residences house that I have covered in paper. So I first covered all of the numbers with a White Paint Dabber and let them dry. Then I smeared Red Pepper Paint Dabber on top of the numerals and heat set that. Next, I embossed all of the numbers with Clear Embossing Powder to give them an enamel look. I ended up not using the big "6" but I will use it on another project!
I added a keyhole from Wendy's Doorplates and Keys. I covered the keyhole in her Silver Embossing Paste and then aged it with a touch of Gold Paint Dabber rubbed over the rough areas. I then added one of her dimensional Red Trinkets Blossom Bucket Hearts over the round hole in at the top of the keyhole. You will see that in the next picture.
Here is the final house, complete with a shabby chic washed door (Wendy's Blossom Bucket Door With Window-backed the window in the door with black cardstock.) I added a piece of kraft cardstock that was stamped with the cool stripe from Wendy's new Busy Making Art stamp set. I die cut the edge using Tim Holtz' Brackets On The Edge die cut. It is distressed with Gathered Twigs and Black Soot and glued onto the house.
I added a key (finished the same way as the key hole) and an Art Parts Flower with another round numeral in the center of the flower. Notice the background behind the flower? That is my favorite new background stamp again...from Wendy's new Heirloom Art. It is clear embossed with an Antique Linen base coat and distressed on top with Broken China. The sides of the film strip Art Part are washed with Picket Fence and then randomly stamped with a script stamp and Jet Black Archival Ink.
Flowers need the sun to grow. So, above the Arts Parts flower, brightly shines a vintage style sun. The Art Parts are covered in Mustard Seed Distress Ink and stamped with Wendy's new coordinating stamp, Sunshine & Art. I added the little black dashes. The sun's cheeks are colored using colored pencil.
