SIMON SAYS SHOW SOME BLING!!

It's MONDAY!!  Time for another Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge!

But first, I want to say a huge "Yippee!" for our two new Design Team members, Ellen Vargo and Tracy Evans!  They are two very creative, talented ladies and will be such a wonderful addition to our Simon Says Stamp and Show family.  If you haven't already, check out the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge Blog to see Ellen and Tracy's first creations as well as the rest of my Design Teammates' ingenious samples for you...check it out!  Just amazing!!!

This week, Simon Says Show "SOME BLING!"
I started with a 6x6 piece of chipboard that I covered with one of the 6x6 squares from Tim Holtz' Lost and Found Paper Stash.  It was a bit bright, so I toned down the color by swiping the new Picket Fence Distress Stain over it.  That muted the colors perfectly.
Next I took a piece of thin aluminum and thin copper and dry embossed them with Tim Holtz' Regal Flourishes Texture Fade.  On the aluminum piece, I combined the Vintage Cabinet Card and the Mini Cabinet Card die cuts to create a "frame".  I then cut another Mini Cabinet Card shape from a piece of plain aluminum.

I rubbed a Black Pitch Paint Dabber all over the dry embossed frame and then wiped off the excess, leaving the black down in the crevasses for an antiqued appearance.  Then, using my finger, I lightly swiped a touch of Juniper Paint Dabber over the surface of the frame to give it a more antiqued look.
Next I wanted to create a "tin type" picture to put in the middle of my "frame".  I had seen this technique done by Claudine Hellmuth and loved it.  Click here to watch her short video demonstrating this technique.  I sized and printed out the vintage image of the lady I chose to use for my tin type.  I painted Matte Multi Medium all over the surface of the plain aluminum mini vintage cabinet card shape and pressed the printed image face down onto the Multi Medium.  Then I lightly rubbed the back of the image to be sure it had made good contact with the aluminum.  I let it dry over night.  Using a Mister filled with water, I sprayed all over the paper backing and lightly rubbed it off until the image appeared and the paper pulp was gone.  There was my "tin type"!  Finally, I lightly swiped (with my finger) just a touch of Juniper Paint from the dabber around the edges of my tin type.  I laid those pieces to the side.
Next, I took the piece of dry embossed copper and cut four of the next to smallest flower shapes from Tim Holtz' Tattered Flowers die cut.  I cut the petals in a little further and rubbed the Juniper Paint Dabber over the surface of the three flowers.  I wiped off the excess and created an antiqued patina look.  I curled and bent the petals and fashioned three of the flowers into one rose and the fourth flower in to a rose bud.  Next I took three green corsage leaves I had and sprayed them first with Sunflower Sparkle Perfect Pearls Mist and then with Perfect Copper.  Then I laid all of those to the side.
Now it was time to put it all together.  I took a piece of the elastic trim from Tim Holtz' Trimmings and colored it with Wild Honey Distress Stain.  I then spritzed it with water and blotted it to mute the color.  I glued it into place.  Here comes the BLING part ~smile~!  I added some bling that happened to be about the same color as the trimming to the center.
Next, I laid the antiqued Vintage Cabinet Card frame in place by using pop dots.  I then hot glued the pink and yellow feathers so that they would be behind my vintage lady's head...almost like a head piece.
Then, using pop dots stacked three high, I added the tin type picture to pop up at the center of the Cabinet Card.  The bling on the tin type was originally clear.  I used Cranberry Alcohol Ink to colorize it.  I colorized the petals of the organza flower on the lady's hair first with Peeled Paint Distress Stain in the center and Wild Honey around the edges.  I hot glued the center bling to the organza flower.  Then I placed all of the bling on the tin type.

I added the roses and leaves on the lower left corner of the tin type.  Finally, I added Tim Holtz Corners on the corners of my creation.  BLING!!!!!!

Now, pull out your crystals, your baubbles, your sparkly stuff and show us some bling!  Post your piece to our blog and you could be the lucky winner of

If your masterpiece is chosen as one of the TOP 3 entries for the week, you will be awarded a TOP 3 BLINKIE to proudly display on your blog.  I can't wait to see what you will come up with!  Good luck and remember to take time to play!  It's SOUL FOOD!!
