Hello friends and HAPPY MONDAY to all of you!
Welcome to Simon Says Stamp's Monday Challenge!
BLOG HOP!!!!
If you've gotten here from SHARI CARROLL'S BLOG, good for you! Isn't she amazing? Her art journal page is fabulous and the video is well worth the watch!
Welcome!
I'll be giving you more blog hop information at the end of my post but first ... a little background on Simon Says Stamp and introducing a NEW ART KIT!
Simon
Says Stamp was founded in 2002 with an interest in exclusively selling
rubber stamps. It didn't take long until we realized we couldn't stop
here. During the past 11 years, we celebrate rubber stamping in its
full glory by giving access to people around the world to a one stop
shop. Rubber stamps still remain the heart of our business and we are
celebrating by hosting a STAMPtember event intended to inspire, educate
and celebrate the greatness of rubber stamping. Part of the enticement
of rubber stamping is the stamps can be used in creating or
complementing ANYTHING! From stamping dates on bank documents and
postage parcels in the early 18th century, rubber stamping has
dramatically expanded to include card making, scrapbooking, mixed media,
life documenting, art journaling and many forms of altering and
expressing art.
Recently, Simon Says released a new STAMPtember Art Journaling Kit.
created by Shari Carroll. Each of the Design Team Members received the
kit and was asked to use it in our own unique ways to create something
wonderful to share with all of you for our blog hop. Just look at all
of the "goodies" in this kit! A NEW Dyan Reaveley 5" x 8" Smaller Art
Journal (just as wonderful as the larger one-only smaller), little
Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paints in wonderful colors, Matte Multi Medium,
an exclusive Simon Says Stamp Stencil, a Vintage Dictionary Page,
Scrabble Tiles, Kelly Purkey Letters, Tim Holtz Ruler Ribbon, a Ranger
Scraper and Mister Bottle, some Cream Prima Flowers, and if you order the kit in September, you receive a a couple of FREE Random Stamps from Indigoblu!
LET THE FUN BEGIN!
Texture
and dimension is the name of the game on my altered new Smaller Art
Journal. Using a Finnibair-ish style, I used Dyan Reaveley's Chequered
Dots 5x8 stencil, my Ranger Scrapper and some White Embossing Paste to
create the checkered edging. I also added Tim Holtz' Weathered Clock
die cut, cut from Grungeboard and glued in place using the Matte Multi
Medium in my kit.
For
dimension, I started adding some little pieces of flowers that I had
mixed in with Prima's metallic and wonderfully vintage Sunrise Sunset
Flower collections, Maya Road's Filigree Antique Butterfly, Tim Holtz
Sprocket Gears, and other metal findings. All were attached using Matte
Multi Medium. I painted the cover using teal and gold iridescent
acrylic paints and added gold highlights to the dimensional pieces by
dry brushing the gold over the areas I wanted to accent.
I
added some shading with a black pencil and thankfully I, like Shari
Carroll, love to collect Scrabble Tiles. I received "A" and "R" in my
kit and I added the "T" to add ...
"ART". Perfect for my art journal cover! Here, you can see more detail of the painting, shading and highlighting.
Lots of dimension.
With the outside of the book being finished, it was time to start on the interior pages and use some more of my kit "goodies"!
I
started with some of Wendy Vecchi's NEW Translucent Embossing Paste
and stenciled a Diamond's Are A Girls Best Friend pattern over a strip
of the Vintage Dictionary Paper. I would later spray this with
Dylusions Bubblegum Pink and accent the diamonds with Silver Adirondak
Paint.
For
one of the interior pages, I cut several rectangles from various paper
scraps that I had and glued them in place using the Matte Multi Medium.
I sprayed the page with Dylusions Pure Sunshine, Vibrant Turquoise and
Fresh Lime.
I
then added some black polka dots using my new Simon Says Stamp
Exclusive stencil included in my kit. The black paint is the Studio Charcoal Black paint that I received in my kit.
Continuing
to layer paint and embellishments, I next moved the stencil over just a
little bit and added Snow Cap white polka dots over the black one.
Cool shadow effect! I also added "VINTAGE" using Black Embossing Paste
and Wendy Vecchi's Classic Words Stencil.
I
transformed the Prima Cream flowers into colorful additions to my page
and stuck a metal Prima gear in between them. They were sprayed with
Dylusions Squeezed Orange, Bubblegum Pink, Pure Sunshine and Fresh Lime with a touch of Perfect Pearls
Sunflower Sparkle added for some extra shimmer.
Continuing
to build the page, I added the strips of pink diamond embossed
Dictionary Page to the upper right of the page, the vintage photo in the
center framed with silver Dresden trim and few more little colored
metallic trinkets, courtesy of Claudine Hellmuth's little paint
bottles. I also added some orange accent lines and circles; drawn with
the tip from the little paint bottle. Very handy! And finally, I added
a partial sentiment from Tim Holtz' Way With Words stamp set.
Now for the page to compliment the one I just completed ...
I
began by stamping the beautiful and detailed images I received in my
kit from Indigoblu. I stamped them onto a piece of scrap cardstock I
had and began coloring them in using various Distress Ink Colors and a
Detailer Water Brush.
I
distressed around the painted design with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink
to really deepen the tones of the colors. I then painted over the
Distress Ink colors with corresponding Perfect Pearls Powders and the
Detailer Water Brush to really bring out the color and give this page
some subtle shine. Sunflower Sparkle, Pink Gumball, Turquoise, Green
Patina, Kiwi and Berry Twist added this beautiful shimmer. Very subtle
... but when the light catches it ... it's amazing against the darker
Gathered Twigs background.
Below
the stamped and colored flower and postage stamp images, I added this
little vintage pocket made from more of the Dictionary Paper that has
been distressed with Evergreen Bough Distress Ink and edged with
Gathered Twigs. I added a touch of lace across the top and little
metallic gold corners. The photograph of the lovely lady is computer
generated, black photo corners added and resting on yet another piece of
torn Vintage Dictionary Paper that is distressed with Victorian Velvet,
edged with Gathered Twigs and sprayed with Perfect Pearls Pearl Mist.
Here
are my new art pages, side by side in my new art journal. I added the
little hinge clips to the left side and I like how their dark metallic
color plays off of the pages. I also created a tag for the pocket with
more of my favorite quotes ...
The
background of this #8 Manila Tag is distressed using Wild Honey and
Evergreen Bough Inks with a touch of Gathered Twigs thrown in around the
edges and Black Soot just on the paper's edge. I mottled the
background using Tim Holtz' spritz and flick method. I alternated
stamping the sentiments with Jet Black Archival and Coffee Archival
Inks.
And here is a look at the interior of my art journal with the tag in the pocket.
I hope that you have enjoyed seeing the creative process that my Small Art Journal took in coming to life via my wonderful new Art Journaling Kit from Simon Says Stamp.
