DOILY SERENDIPITY

Can you believe it is already the middle of January?  Wow...time flies!

Today is one of my Design Teammates' birthday .... Sandra Mouwen. Happy Birthday, Sandra!  I hope you have a wonderful day!

And, another bit of Design Team news before I get into this week's challenge ...Terry Wiestma-Girbes one of my Design Team buddies is leaving us.  Terry, my little Dutch buddy, and I have become dear friends through our Simon Says Stamp and Show Design Team duties.  She is such a positive inspiration to me.  Even though she's moving on to two new design teams, we will always be friends.  I wish her all the best and much happiness in her new challenges!

Meeting and making friends ... that is just one of the wonderful things about blogging.  I have met SO MANY AMAZING and talented people through this challenge.  Thank you to all of you who follow my blog and leave comments on my work.  You have no idea how much your thoughts and your time mean to me!

Now...on to this week's challenge.
This week's Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge is all about lace or doilies.  I love them both; but I decided to work with doilies.  The piece I've created is done on 6x6 chipboard and covered with black cardstock.
The background is all done with Perfect Pearls Powders.

I very lightly spritzed my black cardstock with water and then tapped some various Perfect Pearls powders randomly onto the cardstock.  Next, using the larger brush provided with the Perfect Pearls, I blended all of the colors together.  You get a gorgeous iridescence.  Next, I used a Gold Paint Dabber to randomly stamp the honeycomb design from Tim Holtz' Mixed Media stamp set onto the background.  Next, I edged the 6x6 board with the Gold Paint Dabber.  **Be sure that you clean your stamp right after stamping with paint!
The rectangle you see here is cut away from the cardstock and before adhering it to the chipboard backing.  Then I backed it with a pastel polka dot paper.  This is going to be the background for my Poppystamps Window.

I die cut the dressform onto plain Grungeboard that had been colored with Picked Raspberry on the body section. Then I added the design to the body portion using Tim Holtz' Fourishes Texture Fade.  I lightly tapped the higher portions of the design with an embossing ink pad and sprinkled Gold Embossing Powder on it.  Then heat set the design.  I also gold embossed the very top and stand of the dress form.

I cut three Distressed Doilies out of crinoline and colored them using three shades of Distress Inks:  Picked Raspberry on the bottom, Victorian Velvet in the center and Tattered Rose at the top.  Then I inked the edges with a Gold Paint Dabber and spritzed them with Sunflower Sparkle Perfect Pearls Mist.

I took a needle and thread and gathered up the tops of the doilies and using 1/4" Scor Tape, I attached them to the dress form in tiers.  I added a seam tape sash that was been gold embossed and spritzed on the backside with Mint Perfect Pearls Mist.

The window was cut out of manila cardstock and distressed using Chestnut Roan.  I attached the flowers in the window box with Scor Tape and then added the flower box over the top by pop dotting it.  The small doily valance at the top of the window is also distressed with Chestnut Roan.  A second top of the window was cut out and popped over the raw edge of the doily.  Finally, I gold embossed "SERENDIPITY", from Tim Holtz' underneath the window.

Put it all together with hot glue and pop dots.

Now it's your turn to create something wonderful using doilies and/or lace.  Enter our challenge and YOU could be the winner of Simon Says Stamp's $50.00 credit voucher!

Yes...that's right! FREE $50.00 credit voucher ... if you're the lucky random winner!  We also recognize the TOP THREE entries for the week and let me tell you, this is a nice honor as we have some awesome entries every week!

Good luck and I can't wait to see what you've created!

  5. Oh wow, I LOVE that Background Candy. Some of my favourite things are on this card - Perfect Pearls (just love that iridescence), gold heat-embossing (always looks good), and lacy doily edges. Love the way you have gathered the doilies and made a pretty dress from them, and the gold "serendipidity" is the perfect finishing touch. Maddy x
