Yay!!! Linda has started up another GREAT Tim Holtz inspired series of challenges at Studio L3's GRUNGY MONDAY! This is the first of the new series...so get involved! This theme is taken from Tim's Christmas Tags of 2008 ~ Day 10.
Here is my entry into "Grungy Monday" ... featuring Tim's famous "Umbrella Man". I chose Tim's stamp "LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORM TO PASS BUT LEARNING TO DANCE IN THE RAIN" for this tag. Boy, how true that is!!
I started with one of Tim's "Borderline" masks and spritzed the tag with my concoction of Broken China Distress Ink, Kiwi Perfect Pearls and water in a Mini Mister. I rubbed on some Rusty Hinge, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and edged just a bit with Black Soot. Then I did Tim's splatter technique. LOVE that technique!
The text features "LIFE" and is copied out of an old dictionary. I tore the edges and inked it with Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain; with a touch of Black Soot on some edges.
The Umbrella Man is stamped onto Grungeboard with Black Embossing Powder. Before I heated it, I brushed away a bit of the powder so that I would have more area that would accept the "paint" I made out of Green Patina Perfect Pearls and water. It worked really well. Then I inked the edges with Black Soot. I thought the mini pins looked like raindrops falling...so I wired them onto the umbrella. Aren't they great?!
The filmstrip is from Tim's "Captured Moments Stamp Set". I heat embossed it with Walnut Stain Embossing Powder. I cut away the centers and added a piece of clear vellum. Underneath the vellum, I added three vintage pictures of little boys take from Tim's old "Distressables and Doo-dads" strips. I added some antique silver brads and glued or pop dotted everything into place. Finally, I added a couple of pieces of color coordinated ribbon and a funky piece of black trim to accent the tag.
So, that's it...Oh my gosh!!! That was so much fun to get my fingers all INKY again!!! Thank you Linda for starting up GRUNGY MONDAY!!! Have a great day everybody...and take time to PLAY & CREATE!!
